Speedware and ING Australia Complete Successful Legacy Modernization Project

Montreal, Quebec (January 22, 2009) -- Speedware Ltd., a leading provider of IT modernization solutions and productivity tools, today announced the successful completion of a large-scale legacy modernization project for ING Australia Limited. ING Australia, a leading financial product and services provider, recently released their new applications into production, signaling the end of a 19-month, multi-million dollar project to rehost their legacy systems and modernize their IT infrastructure.

"ING Australia’s successful go-live is evidence that large organizations can undertake a well-planned and automated modernization project to migrate to a new, stable platform, providing increased business agility and significant cost savings, "said Andy Kulakowski, General Manager of Speedware. "Today, many large companies with sizeable and complex IT environments are considering migration as a way to cut costs. Our recent success in this area shows that, with proper planning and analysis, larger companies have the most to gain from modernization."

Speedware offers comprehensive modernization technologies and services designed to protect companies’ IT investments and help reduce IT operating costs as they move toward newer computing platforms. ING Australia required a low-risk solution to migrate its applications to a long-term, modern platform, allowing it to increase its business agility and position itself at the forefront of its industry. The company had initially decided to rewrite its business-critical legacy applications, but the associated demands on IT resources were excessive and the slow progress of the project led the company to investigate rehosting as an option. Speedware’s automated modernization solution was implemented more quickly than the rewrite project and ended up being much more cost-effective for both the short and long term.

"We are extremely pleased with the results of our modernization project and the way in which Speedware managed the migration and integration activities. They worked closely with our team, driving for absolute reliability and low risk. In the end, the project turned out to be very cost-effective," said Greg Booker, CIO of ING Australia. "We calculated that the cost of the rehosting project combined with the resulting maintenance costs over the next ten years would be four to five times less expensive than if we had continued with our rewriting project. That translates into a lot more money that can be invested into innovative projects focused on helping to grow our business."
